The last thing you want to do is spend time and money putting together a favor that's just going to get thrown in the trash. Instead, think of favors that will be useful to your guests! Food items are always a hit (what's more useful than something that satisfies the taste buds?), but also consider items like chapstick, candles, or other things that can provide use long after the wedding day.
